One look at the table of contents would make a person think that this book is a course in writing ebooks. This is not the case. While the author does include information on a number of topics, the information is general and wrapped up in just a few sentences. Each topic in a chapter is pretty much summed up by the topic header. For instance, a header of “Adding security to your sales sight” will just say that it is a good idea to add security to your sales sight because hackers try to get your information. Then there will be two or three filler sentences to seemingly beef up the paragraph. This does not happen in all sections, but it happens in most.
My other complaint is that the book talks a lot about editing and professional appearance, yet the book I received has many editing errors in it. Within just the first few pages there are spelling and grammar mistakes, as well as sentences that are oddly and extremely spaced out throughout the book. The print is also big, adding to the count of pages, but not to the quality of content.
This is definitely not a comprehensive book and the video tutorials DO NOT EXIST ! I typed in the web page exactly as it is in the book and it does not exist. I tried multiple browsers and still, it does not exist. I do not know if he changed the web address or if he simply does not sell enough ebooks to keep his site afloat.
The only good thing this book has going for it, is that the individual headers did make me think of topics that I otherwise would not have thought of. However, learning anything of specific value about those topics is going to take further independent research.
At most this book should cost 6 dollars. I want my money back.

EBooks are one of the hot trends of the Internet world. There is a growing demand for electronic books as readers accept them as a quick and efficient way to get information. Likewise, many people want to write their own eBook but how do they go about it? There is information on eBooks “out there” on the net, but it is spread all over the place, which makes it difficult to use. Fortunately, author Scott Boyd gathered up all that information, added a wealth of his own knowledge, and combined it all into one handy reference book, Make Money Online: Write and Sell EBooks.
Boyd begins his book by discussing the burgeoning market for eBooks, the benefits of writing eBooks (such as establishing yourself as an expert on that book’s topic), and how you can either use eBooks to make a little extra spending money or grow the publishing of said books into a successful business.
Make Money Online: Write and Sell EBooks covers every facet of researching, writing and marketing eBooks. From choosing `a compelling title’ to `how many pages’ and `how to price your eBook,’ there’s not a topic that the author has missed. It was refreshing to read many sections where the author dealt, in depth, with subjects that are often covered, but typically in a quick cursory way in other books. For example, when discussing price, Boyd doesn’t just say, `check out what others are charging and price your book accordingly.’ Instead, he explains what will happen if you price your book too high or too low before moving on to finding the ideal price. He also offers great tips to increase sales such as setting your price in an amount ending in 7 or 9 (ex. $47 or $35.97) because marketing research has shown that buyers are more likely to purchase a product priced that way.
Much of the advice in Make Money Online: Write and Sell EBooks works for both eBooks and traditional “hard-copy” books. Both need things like ISBNs and blogging to promote them and Boyd tells you exactly how to do both, as well as many, many other things. Both also need websites for proper Internet marketing and the author, as with other topics, fully explores this issue. I found the author’s suggestion of creating “mini-sites” for each eBook particularly interesting. Boyd explains why each eBook should have its own unique site rather than a page on a larger site. As an added bonus, the author maintains a blog where he offers additional information on eBooks (the site’s url is listed in the book).
While the topic of this book could make for a rather bland reading experience, the author injects a bit of humor and personal opinions to add spice. “I can’t stand the bright and thick borders that some authors seem to love. They seem unprofessional to me, maybe I am crazy.” (pg.75). While the writing is entertaining, it must be noted that there are errors in grammar and punctuation that interrupt the flow of the text in places. For example, “If you use their servers, they will run ads in around your blog…” (pg. 197). Having an editor clean up the text would greatly enhance the reading of this book.
Quill says: For those interested in getting into the hot eBooks market, Make Money Online: Write and Sell EBooks will prove invaluable.

I have to begin this review by admitting a certain bias against ebooks. I grew up around leather bound literature by folks like Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne and even newbies like Joyce Carol Oates and Stephen King. These are books that I prefer to be tattered and dog-eared with scribbling in the margins and some penciled underlining. Even a little well-placed graffiti is good. But ebooks? Where’s the tangibility? So, even starting out in Scott Boyd’s guide “Make Money Online: Write & Sell Ebooks”, he was selling to a rough customer. Did he win me over? In a way, yes. Not by changing my mind, but by opening my mind to a new universe of information.
My recommendation is that you already have at least your idea for what you want to write before you pick up Boyd’s book. Although he devotes his opening chapters to how you should seek your inner muse and what to write about, much of what you’re selling depends on you. The more of a product you have going into to Boyd’s system, the better off you’ll be. For instance, if you go in with an idea, Boyd has chapters devoted to narrowing the scope of that idea and aiming it towards mass consumption. If you have a rough draft, even better! Boyd has chapter’s that will help you refine the title, edit it, get an ISBN, and step-by-step instructions on how to launch an on-line marketing campaign to promote it. But if you go into it with no idea at all, the most Boyd can tell you is to look into what you know to find something that is absolutely unique, and develop that into a marketable idea. In other words, “get an idea”.
So let’s say you are already set with the book you want to write. Now what? This is where Boyd’s program really leaves the atmosphere and soars off into the cosmos of commercialism. This is where you cease being the artist and become the business man (or woman). First, there are the requisite techniques for professional editing, which you’d have to do no matter what format you were writing for, but then there are the deeper areas like building a companion website to market the idea along with tips on optimizing your sales page. (Tip: Don’t forget the PS!) Not to mention that Boyd delivers scores of resource information, including his own website which offers a lot more in-depth training through videos.
Scott Boyd’s book has made me a believer. This isn’t so much about the art of book making as it is the business of producing a product, and that is a side of the scale that can’t be overlooked for new writers looking to break the mold in an increasingly difficult publishing world. Boyd’s short and frequent section breaks make for easy reference and quick reading. This is really only Boyd’s half of a collaborative effort with the reader to create a successful ebook, and from the looks of it, Boyd has outdone himself. It’ll be up to you if you want to transform Boyd’s system into a winning business venture, and that’s the most important part.

I’ve read a number of books and ebooks about how to create information products to sell online, particularly ebooks. I love to write, love the internet, and purchase ebooks myself to help me learn new things, so it seemed like a good fit.
I found this by far the most accessible and complete guide to knowing what to write about, formatting, search engine optimization, ClickBank, etc.
So many ebook guides focus only on one aspect of writing your ebook, like how to get motivated, how to do keyword research, etc, and while that is all extremely important to get in-depth info on, I’d say this would be the one book you should start with if you want to write ebooks and sell them online, because Scott covers the entire process and anticipates common stumbling blocks along the way. It’s deceptively simple, because he doesn’t go overboard to where a beginner would get confused, but he does cover what I feel are the most helpful tips in getting your ebook done and out there.
Is everything you’ll need to know in this book? Definitely not. Is there enough here to get you selling your first ebook or three? Absolutely.
I’m particularly grateful for a few of the tips for using Word effectively to write and format ebooks. Scott gave some non-intuitive tips that he learned along the way that helped me focus on my writing and not get hung up on how to do things in Word.

This is without doubt the most comprehence book I have ever read on the subject of writing ebooks. All the key aspects of writing, editing. publishing, promoting, selling, and much more are explained better and in detail than they were in any of the other books I have read. This book saved me many hours of research and many dollars by not having to buy so many reference books
